ILOILO City – An Indian money lender was robbed in Oton, Iloilo.
Kasmiri Lal of Molo district told the police two armed men took his P10,000 cash and a cellular phone around 11 a.m. on Jan. 4 in Barangay Rizal, Oton.
The robbers were using a motorcycle. The back rider threatened to shoot Lal, said Chief Inspector Alejandro Apostol, Oton police chief.
The robbers fled after getting the foreigner’s money and phone, said Apostol.
“The victim, however, told us he was not interested in pressing charges against anyone,” lamented the police officer.
In fact, it was not the Indian national who informed the police about the robbery but the barangay officials of Rizal, Oton, added Apostol.
“He was adamant in not filing charges despite our encouragement,” according to the police officer.
This was the fourth robbery incident in Iloilo province recorded by the police since Jan. 1. The three others were all in Passi City.
On Tuesday night (Jan. 3), the 55-year-old Elisa Pacardo of Barangay Man-it, Passi City lost P30,000 cash and a cell phone to three armed men.
On New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, meat businessman Rolando Palmes of Passi City lost P600,000 to robbers who ransacked his house in Barangay Poblacion Ilaya.
The following day (Jan. 2), two minors attempted to rob the house of former Department of Education – Division of Iloilo superintendent Dr. Raymundo Lapating in Barangay Poblacion, Passi City.
An alarmed Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) sent additional policemen to Passi City.
“I told all police chiefs to have non-stop roving operations in their areas for the possible arrest of the robbers,” said Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon, IPPO director.
He also appealed for the public’s cooperation.
