MANILA – Sen. Leila de Lima has “very credible” sources to prove that President Rodrigo Duterte was responsible for the stabbing incident inside the New Bilibid Prison in September last year.
She made the statement after Justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II denied the involvement of Duterte in the stabbing of high-profile inmate Jaybee Sebastian and the death of convicted drug lord Tony Co.
“Clearly, that’s one sure way of coercing Sebastian, et al. to testify and lie against me as they eventually did after such stabbing incident,” de Lima said in a statement on Friday.
The President was behind the Bilibid riot, the former Justice secretary reiterated.
“They have the capacity and resources to do anything and everything, including downright criminal acts, in order to implement and consummate a presidential vendetta to destroy (me) at all costs,” she added.
Aguirre earlier denied that it was Duterte who masterminded the stabbing incident killing one convicted drug lord and injuring four other inmates.
According to the secretary, de Lima has no basis for her claims.
“What will the President get if Sebastian is killed? If I were the President, I would want Sebastian to live so he could speak and divulge the truth,” he said.
The official has said a Navy officer linked senators de Lima and Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV in the bloody riot at the national penitentiary.
