MANILA – The Ceres-Negros Football Club has begun its preparation for a new campaign this season here and abroad by tapping the services of four Philippine men’s football team Azkals mainstays.
The Bacolod City, Negros Occidental-based squad on Friday announced that they has signed Junior Muñoz, Jose Elmer Porteria, Jason de Jong and Filipino-Australian Joshua Grommen.
Also enlisted into the Ceres-Negros roster are foreign-based players Kota Kawase of Japan, who last played in Australia, as well as Spanish Manuel Herrera and Fernando Rodriguez.
The seven players fill the gap left by Marwin and Marvin Angeles, Nathaniel Burkey, Jason Sabio, Stephan Schrock, Victorino Son, Adrian Gallardo-Valdes, Valentine Kama, Kim Sang-Min, and Yong Son Chan.
Ceres-Negros technical director Ali Go said they are currently in the rebuilding process after finishing runner-up in the 2016 United Football League (UFL) League and Cup divisions.
“We are back to the drawing board,” Go said. “We are glad that the Negrenses are in full support with the team, also Negros Occidental Football Association president Ricardo Yanson Jr. and Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr.”
The Ceres-Negros squad will once again participate in the 2017 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup, with some of its games to be held at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.
Ceres-Negros will also compete in the newly-launched premiere Philippine Football League, where some of its UFL rivals have also transferred./PN
