ROXAS City – Soldiers are “peace-builders, people’s protectors and social workers.”
The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) is focused on civil-military operations, said Lieutenant Colonel Ericson Rosana, Public Affairs Office head.
“We are now giving emphasis on the roles of soldiers as peace-builders, people’s protectors and social workers, based on our Development Support and Security Plan (DSSP) Kapayapaan,” Rosana said.
The DSSP Kapayapaan (2017 to 2022) replaced the Armed Forces’ six-year Internal Peace and Security Plan Bayanihan, which expired on Dec. 31 last year, Rosana told a meeting of the Capiz Association of Government Public Information Officers.
The core of the DSSP Kapayapaan involves the neutralization of terrorists and extremist groups; peace talks with the New People’s Army; support to law enforcement, especially against illegal drugs and crimes; and contribution to nation-building, he said.
Rosana also said they continue working to make four of the 10 provinces covered by the 3ID — in regions 6, 7 and 18 — insurgency-free within the year. (PIA/PN)
