ILOILO City – The two men separately found dead in La Paz district and Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo on Jan. 20 could be victims of a “war” among drug pushers, according to the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
“Baka may na atraso silang ibang pushers. Kasi aside from illegal drugs, wala naman silang other derogatory record na maaring sanhi ng kanilang pagkamatay,” theorized Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon, IPPO director.
Dante Laluma, 40, of Barangay Cubay, Jaro district and friend Romel Andrew Cagbay, 32, of Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro were shot to death.
Cagbay was an identified suspected drug personality in Barangay Tabuc Suba.
While the two were widely believed to be victims of summary execution, Tuzon won’t conclude this to be the handiwork of vigilantes.
As of this writing, no suspect has been identified.
Laluma’s body was found in Barangay Tinorian, Barotac Nuevo while Cagbay was fished out of a creek in Barangay Banuyao, La Paz.
Their heads were covered with duct tape and they were handcuffed behind their backs.
According to Dr. Owen Lebaquin, medico-legal officer of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), Laluma was shot seven times on the head while Cagbay was shot thrice on the head and twice on the chest.
Investigation showed that since July last year when the Philippine National Police launched Oplan Double Barrel against drug trafficking, Cagbay made himself scarce in Barangay Tabuc Suba.
