BACOLOD City – A declaration of partnership will be signed by Victorias City, Negros Occidental and Nanjo City of Okinawa, Japan on Feb. 15.
The signing will be held in Victorias City, about 34 km. north of this city.
Victorias City will be represented by Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca while Mayor Keishun Koja will sign on behalf of Nanjo City.
The activity will also serve as renewal of the implementation of the ongoing agri-eco tourism enhancement project of Victorias City in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Lequiowings NPO, and Nanjo City.
The declaration that the two cities will sign states: “Both cities shall strive to further international cooperation, human and economic resources exchange, and enhance international understanding and trust in order to intensify regional vitalization efforts towards sustainable development of each city.”
Under the partnership, the two cities will work together and strengthen their JICA Partnership Program, which includes the following:
* Victorias City agri-business / agri-eco-tourism enhancement project based on the Nanjo City model
* Nanjo City-Victorias City strengthening regional vitalization for sustainable development.
The signing of the declaration will be followed by the ceremonial turnover of fire trucks, rescue boats, and boat trailers from Nanjo City’s Shimajiri Fire Station Association, through NPO Lequiowings, to Victorias City’s risk reduction and management office.
Mayor Koja will be joined by Lequiowings executive director Chochu Awa, project manager Takeshi Kushima, project coordinator Kaoru Higa, chief commandant Mitsuya Tsuhako, and board member Tadashi Ishikawa with Kensaku Nakahara of the Shimajiri Fire Station and Yurino Urasaki of the Civil Registrar’s Office.
On Feb. 16, the group will hold a site visit at the Victorias and Nanjo City Friendship Park and will proceed to the ground breaking of the Okinawan House at Gawahon Eco-Park. (PNA)
