SAN JOSE, Antique – A rookie police officer shot his younger brother following an argument over a motorcycle.
Police Officer 1 Novie Aron Miranda, 30, was detained in the lockup cell of the Tobias Fornier police station. He is facing an administrative charge.
Miranda fired at his 25-year-old brother Marjohn March in front of their house in Barangay Villafor, Tobias Fornier around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, according to Police Officer 3 Sannie Nieva.
Miranda got pissed that his brother’s friend Michael Marcalinas borrowed their motorcycle without his permission, said Nieva.
“When Marcalinas came back, Miranda confronted him, but the latter’s younger brother defended his friend,” Nieva said.
Miranda, who was detailed at the Belison police station, shot Marjohn March on the left leg and left buttocks. The latter was taken to the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in this capital town.
Miranda turned himself in to the Tobias Fornier police and surrendered his weapon: his service firearm, a .9mm pistol with 17 live bullets.
“The victim is no longer interested in filing a charge against his brother, but [Miranda] will still be held administratively liable,” Nieva said./PN
