SAN JOSE, Antique – Fire incidents in Antique rose in 2016, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) noted as it observes the Fire Prevention Month this March.

From only 32 in 2015, fires recorded racked up to 84 in 2016, the BFP said.

But the cost of damage last year was lower than in 2015 — P23 million compared to P46 million — Senior Fire Officer 2 Alenel E. Cuayson, chief of operation, investigation and intelligence, said in a radio interview.

This year the BFP-Antique recorded nine fires between January and February.

Properties were damaged, but no one was reported killed or injured, Cuayson said.

The incidents occurred in San Jose (three), Sibalom (three), Hamtic (one), Culasi (one), and Anini-y (one).

Total cost of damage was estimated at P685,000. Grass fire, fireworks and “faulty wiring” were among the causes, the BFP said.

This year’s Fire Prevention Month has the theme “Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagahan, Ibayong Pag-iingat sa Sunog ay sa Sariling Pamamahay Simulan.” (PIA/PN)
