KALIBO, Aklan – Want to get to tourist attractions in this capital town? Try the tricycle tour with trained guides.
Visitors may head to Tigayon Hill, Museo it Akean, Eco-Bakhawan Park, St. John the Baptist Parish cathedral, and pasalubong shops on affordable tour packages on board the popular means of transportation here.
One hundred tricycle drivers received starter kits and standard tour guide vests from Mayor William Lachica and Vice Mayor Madeline Regalado at the Pastrana Park.
Now certified tour guides, the drivers were members of the Kalibo Tricycle Drivers and Guides Association (Katridga) headed by Bernie Almero.
Their tricycles were marked “Vibrant Kalibo” for easy identification.
Most of the tricycle drivers were serving tourists from the Kalibo International Airport.
Others also get guests via the municipal government’s Tourism and Cultural Affairs Division (TCAD) and accommodation establishments, according to Municipal Tourism Officer Rhea Meren-Ibesate.
They had undergone a TCAD-facilitated skills training on tour-guiding funded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development under its Sustainable Livelihood Program from Dec. 5 to 9 last year.
Aside from tour-guiding techniques, the drivers were also taught about tourism trends, communication skills and customer relations.
Kalibo has an estimated 3,000 registered tricycle drivers. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
