SAN JOSE, Antique – December is a busy month for Antiqueños as they celebrate Christmas and the Binirayan Festival.
Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Eugene Alojipan, who chairs the committee in charge of this year’s festival beauty pageant, said he feels excited for the events slated this month.
The Lin-ay Kang Antique pageant will be joined by representatives of 18 municipalities in the province.
Alojipan said people from neighboring provinces look forward to seeing the pageant for it is a “contest of Antiqueño beauty and wit.”
Alojipan added that whoever gets the crown on Dec. 29 “must have the heart to serve her home province.”
The candidate who wins the title will receive P100,000 cash prize from the provincial government.
The month-long Biniyaran Festival kicked off on Dec. 1 at the Evelio B. Javier Freedom Park in this capital town.
The opening ceremony included the switching on of the Christmas Wonderland in the town followed by a fireworks display.
For her part, Gov. Rhodora Cadiao said the festival is the time when Antiqueños from across the world come home.
The festival got its name from the word “biray” which means the docking of boats. (PNA/PN)
