ILOILO City — One of the country’s boldest and most iconic student-led traditions returns to Panay Island as the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Kappa Gamma Chapter of the University of the Philippines Iloilo stages the Centennial Oblation Run on December 16, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the UP Iloilo City Campus.

To be held in commemoration of 100 years of Alpha Phi Omega Philippines, the Centennial Oblation Run is more than a spectacle. It is a powerful statement of courage, protest, and service — values APO has upheld since its founding in 1925.

With the theme “Ika-100 Taon ng Paglilingkod: Takbo para sa Bayang Nilulunod ng Katiwalian – Wakasan!”, the run places present-day social realities at the forefront of a long-standing tradition of speaking truth to power.

Named after the University of the Philippines’ iconic Oblation statue, which symbolizes selfless service to the nation, the Oblation Run has long been used by APO chapters nationwide to raise awareness on pressing national and social issues. This year’s centennial edition underscores the organization’s firm stand against corruption and injustice.

Organizers from the Appo Kappa Gamma Chapter said the run is meant to remind the public that patriotism goes beyond words: “This is not merely about running. It is about courage – about choosing to stand up, to be seen, and to speak for the people, even when it is uncomfortable.”

Participants, composed of full-fledged APO members, will take part in the symbolic run within the campus, accompanied by traditional drum beatsthat heighten the solemn yet defiant atmosphere.

As part of the centennial celebration, the event also reflects APO’s enduring principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service.
