MANILA — The Abra Solid North Weavers turned an already commanding season into a statement of dominance, completing a flawless playoff run and a 36-game surge by sweeping the Quezon Huskers, 3–0, to seize the MPBL 2025 Season national championship.
The title run capped a campaign defined by depth and consistency, with Abra rolling through the postseason without a loss after finishing the 30-team league’s single round-robin eliminations at 28–1 and closing the year on a 26-game tear. The Weavers’ balance showed on both ends as they dispatched Ilagan Isabela in the quarterfinals and Caloocan Batang Kankaloo in the semifinals, then blanked the Pangasinan Heatwaves, 3–0, in the North Division Finals.
At the core of the title were league MVP Dave Ildefonso and National Finals Best Player Jason Brickman, flanked by proven winners Encho Serrano and former Finals MVP Mike Ayonayon, with Rookie of the Year Raven Gonzales adding youthful punch. Coach of the Year Yong Garcia also leaned on steady contributions from Ryan Batino, John Uduba, Marwin Taywan, Geo Chiu, Mark Yee, Simon Camacho, and CJ Austria, as the Weavers’ rotation kept pressure on opponents all season.
Quezon tested Abra despite the sweep, forcing overtime in two of three championship games. The Huskers fell 81–80 in Game One and 94–85 in Game Three, both in extra time, after a tight 62–58 loss in Game Two. It was Quezon’s second straight National Finals shutout, but the showing marked progress from its 2024 defeat to Pampanga.
Ljay Gonzales paced the Huskers’ bid and earned All-MPBL First Team honors alongside Ildefonso, Christian Fajarito of Pasay, Vic Manuel of Pangasinan, and Kenny Roger Rocacurva of Biñan.
