ILOILO City – The city government plans to professionalize traffic enforcers.
Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu said a “traffic academy” will be established.
There, traffic enforcers will undergo short courses to further improve their knowledge and capacity related to their work.
“Damu sa ila dugay na. Iban mga 30 years na sa service pero damu sang naandan nga abi naton insakto, sala gali,” said Conlu.
“We will capacitate our traffic personnel,” she said.
Traffic enforcers will be taught in classrooms then they would be tasked to apply their learnings through practical exams on the streets.
Among others, Conlu said, they would be taught or “refreshed” on proper traffic enforcement.
There will be lectures on traffic-related ordinances implemented by the city, and topics on behavior, too.
“Ma-partner kita sa religious kag academe para nga once buy-an na naton sila, nakapasar na sila, buot silingon confident na kita nga kabalo gid sila sang obra nila,” said Conlu.
Iloilo City has more or less 300 traffic enforcers manning the streets by shifts.
Conlu said all traffic aides must pass the exam or they will not be hired or renewed. But Conlu said they will allow three retakes on the course.
“Kon indi gid sia kabalo, meaning to say wala gid sia skills magmando magdelihir sa aton dalanon,” said Conlu.
Also starting next year, Conlu said, the city government will only hire traffic enforcers aged 25 years old and below to replace those who will retire or resigned./PN
