ILOILO City – Forty-eight police personnel of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) are under investigation for different administrative violations.
Between January to May 17 this year, these cops – Police Commissioned Officers (PCOs) and Police Non-Commissioned Officers (PNCOs) – were involved in 39 cases, data from the PRO-6 showed.
The charges are being heard under the office of Regional Internal Affairs Services (RIAS), according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson.
“Not all 48 personnel are guilty, some are victims of circumstances, but still it depends on the RIAS and how the accused explain their side,” Malong stressed.
PRO-6 director, Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda is also “really serious” in disciplining policemen while those who have achievements will be given recognition.
“Our regional director always reminded his personnel to avoid committing violations and be dedicated to their job,” she added.
The latest police officer slapped with an administrative sanction was Police Staff Sergeant Jhun Alvarez who was assigned at the Pandan police station in Antique province.
On May 4, Alvarez allegedly mauled his live-in partner and illegally discharged his service firearm during their altercation in their house in Barangay Tingib, Pandan.
Alvarez, 38, got irked after he reportedly lost in an online cockfighting. He also hit the sedan owned by his live-in partner’s mother, investigation revealed.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Lilibeth Unlayao and Police Staff Sergeants Raffy Lucinio and Arnel Delos Santos responded to the call.
The officers tried to pacify Alvarez, but he resisted and fired his weapon once. Grappling for the gun ensued.
