MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) vowed to maintain their support to the Philippine Constitution and the Chain of Command amid the call for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to step down.

AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla said on Monday that they are committed to maintaining peace in the country and remaining impartial.

“The AFP reiterates its unwavering commitment to professionalism, loyalty to the Constitution, and strict adherence to the Chain of Command,” Padilla said.

She added: “Our soldiers, pilots, sailors and marines remain dedicated to our mandate of safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Philippines, regardless of any political affiliations or individuals in authority.”

“Our duty is to protect the Filipino people and uphold the rule of law, ensuring that peace and development will prevail throughout the nation. We will continue to fulfill these responsibilities with integrity, impartiality, and utmost dedication,” she further said.

Davao del Norte’s Cong. Pantaleon Alvarez, in a speech on Sunday evening, called on the AFP to peacefully withdraw their support for President Marcos.

“Pagsumabog ang gulo sa West Philippine Sea, there will be countless dead bodies, there would be unimaginable destruction, famine, hunger,” Alvarez said during a rally in Tagum City in Davao.

“Kaya bago mangyari ‘yan lahat, nakikiusap ako sa inyo, we don’t have to hurt each other, we don’t have to fire a single shot. Simple lang, sa mapayapang paraan, please withdraw your support to the chief executive,” he added./PN
