MANILA – The Marcos administration is preparing to file what it calls “air-tight, evidence-based” cases involving alleged ghost and anomalous flood control projects, with Malacañang assuring the public that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is determined to deliver results amid mounting frustration over the pace of the crackdown.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Acting Secretary Dave Gomez said the public’s anger and impatience over the issue are fully acknowledged, but stressed that the President refuses to rush weak cases that might collapse in court.
“Alam namin galit sila… naiinip na sila,” Gomez said in a radio interview. “But we will not disappoint you. The President will not disappoint you.”
Gomez said investigators are building cases strong enough to avoid a repeat of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scandal, where several accused individuals were eventually cleared.
“‘Yan ang iniiwasan natin… kailangan matibay talaga ‘yung kaso na ihahain natin,” he said, emphasizing that the goal is to ensure prosecutions stand judicial scrutiny.
He added that Marcos has repeatedly ordered his team to push the campaign to its conclusion.
“Sinimulan ko ito at tatapusin ko ito,” Gomez quoted the President as saying. “The President will not flinch, and he will not be distracted.”
Authorities have already secured an arrest warrant against former lawmaker Zaldy Co, while several others linked to the questionable flood control projects are currently in custody. Parallel investigations are being conducted by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure and the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Gomez said more developments are imminent.
