ILOILO City – Officers of the municipal police station of Ajuy, Iloilo served an outdated arrest warrant against a woman supposedly facing estafa charges.
The 63-year-old Rona Bonifacio of Barangay Progreso, Ajuy was bewildered by the wrongful arrest made by the municipal police on Feb. 14.
She told Panay News that the esfata charges filed against her sometime in 2014 by complainant Lura Eran was already settled two years ago.
According to Bonifacio, the case was closed after Eran filed an affidavit of desistance stating the latter was no longer interested in pursuing the case.
Bonifacio was released after she showed to the police a dismissal order issued by Judge Rogelio Amador of the Regional Trial Court Branch 66 dated July 5, 2018 yet.
Municipal police station chief Captain Roy Castro, relatively new to Ajuy, theorized that the police who handled Bonifacio’s case failed to bring back the arrest warrant to the issuing court to check its status after the case was settled./PN
