Aklan cops ready for May 2022 polls

KALIBO, Aklan – Policemen in the province of Aklan are ready to perform their duties in the May 9, 2022 elections.

With less than two weeks left for the elections, a logistical readiness test of police resources and dispatch ceremony took place at Camp Pastor Martelino in Kalibo, Aklan to check the capability, competency, and operational readiness of policemen.

Around 100 cops are on standby at Aklan Police Provincial Office for deployment, should the need arise,

to ensure no groups or personalities would sabotage the conduct of elections, according to Police Major Willian Aguirre, deputy chief of the Provincial Intelligence Unit.

Aguirre said they will continue to implement strategies and plans of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to make elections orderly and peaceful.

“We have to manage public disturbance in communities related to the elections. Kailangan ready ang mga personnel at equipment natin,” he added.

Motorcycles, patrol vehicles, search and rescue equipment, medical supplies, and personal defense shields for civil disturbance management contingent are also prepared ahead of the elections.

The bulk of the uniformed police force also augmented security in clustered precincts in 17 municipalities as part of security preparations to ensure fair, safe, honest, and orderly polls.

Aguirre said there are no intense political rivalries of candidates in the province, so far, that might disrupt the outcome of elections.

He added that personnel should stay apolitical and refrain from engaging in partisan political activities./PN
