Aklan COVID cases slowing down but don’t get complacent – doc

KALIBO, Aklan – People in the province of Aklan need to maintain their vigilance despite the slowdown in coronavirus infections, according to Dr. Cornelio Cuachon Jr., provincial health officer.

Coronavirus cases dropped to 14 on a seven-day case average with a positivity rate of 17 percent, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.

Cuachon cautioned people not to get complacent but remain on alert.

“Observe the minimum health protocols, and get vaccinated,” he added.

The province recorded 12,466 confirmed cases, with 175 active infections and 314 deaths as of Sept. 28.

Two towns – Libacao and Buruanga – have no active cases, while Lezo and Nabas have two cases each. Ibajay has four active infections.

PHO-Aklan is also waiting for the results of whole genome sequencing of 83 specimens sent on Sept. 3 yet to the Philippine Genome Center.

The Department of Health has so far confirmed 28 cases of the highly transmissible Delta variant of the virus causing COVID-19 in Aklan. Of this number, Kalibo and Banga have five cases each./PN
