KALIBO, Aklan – Household population in Aklan went up 7.3 percent within five years, results of the 2015 Census of Population showed.

From 572,599 persons as of August 2015, it grew to 533,573 in 2010, or 39,026 more, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Aklan said in a press release.

Over the past 15 years, household population increased 27.14 percent (122,246 persons) from 450,353 in 2000.

Household population makes up 99.6 percent of Aklan’s total population.

The remaining 0.4 percent includes institutional population, or those residing in collective or institutional living quarters such as hospitals, orphanages and military camps, according to the PSA.

Among Western Visayan provinces, Aklan ranked fourth in terms of household population size, contributing 7.77 percent to the 7.4-million household population in the region.

Likewise the number of households in Aklan increased by 17,556 — to 133,679 in 2015 from 116,123 in 2010.

Among 17 towns, this capital town had the most number of households with 17,930, the PSA said.

Malay followed with 12,664; Ibajay, 11,019; and New Washington, 10,853. Lezo posted the least number of households with 3,590.

In terms of average household size, Nabas had the highest with 4.6 persons, followed by Ibajay, Buruanga and Kalibo with 4.5 persons each, and Tangalan with 4.4. The lowest average household size was recorded in Batan (four persons).

According to the PSA, a household is a social unit consisting of a person or a group of persons who sleep in the same housing unit and with common arrangements in the preparation and consumption of food.

The average household size, on the other hand, is the average number of persons who live in the household. (With PSA-Aklan/PN)
