KALIBO, Aklan – A worker in a local facial spa is part of the glam team of one of the candidates in the 65th Miss Universe.
The 23-year-old Jeff Silvestre is one of those making sure Hawa Kamara, who represents Sierra Leone, looks her best.
“Sierra Leone is joining the Miss Universe for the first time,” Silvestre said. “They posted on social media that they need a team of makeup artists. A friend of mine in Manila responded to the call.”
The Filipino glam team helping Miss Sierra Leone comprises locals who were among the many Filipino fashion designers and makeup artists, neophyte and veteran, benefiting from the Philippines’ hosting of the pageant.
This is the third time the Philippines is hosting Miss Universe. Previous editions held in the Philippines were in 1974 and 1994. The coronation night for the 65th Miss Universe is this coming Jan. 30.
Aside from doing the makeup, Silvestre said they also help train Kamara on her posture and public relations, among others.
“We thought we could get bashed for helping representatives of other countries,” said Silvestre, who works at Cavanah.
“We received accolades instead,” he said. “Veteran and neophyte Filipino designers were also helping other countries in Miss Universe.”/PN
