
KALIBO, Aklan – Aklan has managed to keep the number of its new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases low.
It thus remains a low-risk area for coronavirus infections, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
Aklan has zero percent health capacity utilization rate or at low risk as of May 22.
Latest DOH data showed the average daily attack per 100,000 individuals in Aklan at 0.16 percent, while growth on cases was at 27 percent – from 11 infections from April 22 to May 5, to 14 cases in the previous weeks of May 6 to May 19.
Aklan has 1.60 percent case fatality rate, one of the lowest in Western Visayas and lower than the region’s case fatality rate of 3.13 percent.
The province also recorded 79.53 percent of its eligible population already fully vaccinated, while 83.23 percent of senior citizens in the province also received their doses.
So far, the region has 776 active cases. Since the pandemic began, 177,091 recoveries from COVID infections and 5,754 deaths were reported.
As of May 23, Western Visayas had fully vaccinated 5,024,423 individuals or 78.18 percent of its population, while 707,684 or 11.01 percent with booster shots./PN
