Aklan reports 13 more COVID-19 deaths

KALIBO, Aklan – More than 10 coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) deaths were recorded in the province of Aklan from January 21 to 27, latest figures from Aklan Provincial Epidemiological and Surveillance Unit.

There were 13 COVID-19 deaths registered in Madalag, Libacao, Kalibo, Malinao, Batan, Makato, Ibajay, Malay, Lezo and New Washington, up from four in the previous seven days.

The five COVID-19 death counts on January 27 were recorded in Ibajay, New Washington, Malinao, Kalibo, and Madalag, bringing the total deaths to 343.

A total of 103 patients were treated in hospitals on average in the week to January 27.

The number of new COVID-19 infections continues to rise also in Aklan, with 867 active cases to date. In total throughout the coronavirus pandemic, more than 14,600 people have been infected.

Aklan also reported the first case of the Omicron variant in Batan, Aklan. A 42-year old woman was tested positive for COVID-19 last December 26, 2021.

Of the locally transmitted cases, Kalibo reported 216 active Covid-19 cases, followed by Numancia with 98 and Batan with 71.

Active cases now account for 5.9 percent of total cases. The recovery rate also dipped further to 97 percent.

Overall, more than 364,400 people have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccines./PN
