Aklan towns take measures vs ASF

AKLAN – Two municipalities in Aklan have implemented measures to combat the spread of African swine fever (ASF), first detected in the province’s Balete town.

Altavas and Banga towns have banned live hogs and all pork products from other municipalities or ASF-affected areas.

These two are the neighboring towns of Balete.

On April 13, Gov. Jose Enrique M. Miraflores confirmed that the province’s first ASF cases were detected in Barangay Arcangel, Balete.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) Western Visayas’ Regional Animal Diseases and Diagnostic Laboratory tested the samples submitted by the Aklan Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) from Barangay Arcangel on April 11, and both turned out positive for the hog disease.

Altavas mayor Denny Refol Sr. issued Executive Order No. 4 directing the Technical Support Team on Bantay ASF to coordinate with local authorities in monitoring and surveillance.

On his part, Banga mayor Noel Redison issued Executive Order No. 11 directing the local police and barangay biosecurity officers to set up control points./PN
