MANILA – Aklanon Andreas Cahilig is headed to a new team after the completion of a two-team, four-player trade between San Miguel Beermen and Terrafirma Dyip ahead of the start of the 2024-25 PBA Commissioner’s Cup this Wednesday.

In a trade deal approved by the PBA Commissioner’s Office on Monday noon, Cahilig along with Juan Miguel Tiongson was traded by the Dyip to the Beermen.

In exchange, the Dyip acquired the playing rights of veteran players Terrence Romeo and Vic Manuel from the Beermen.

Cahilig, who started his career with the Terrafirma franchise in 2018, is expected to play alongside veterans Marcio Lassiter, Celedonio Trollano, and Jeron Teng on the Beermen’s crowded forward position.

Tiongson, on the other hand, will share the point guard duties with Ilonggo Jericho Cruz, Aklanon Kris Rosales, Chris Ross, and Kyt Jimenez at the Beermen’s backcourt.

Romeo and Manuel, meanwhile, are tipped to provide the Dyip a much-needed boost after winning just one game in the group stage of the 2024 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The two former Beermen will play alongside fellow veterans Christian Standhardinger, Stanley Pringle, Kevin Ferrer, Kemark Cariño, and rookie star guard Mark Nonoy.

Romeo joined the Beermen in 2019 and has won three PBA championships with the team, while Manuel was traded to SMB in 2021 and was part of the team’s two title runs./PN
