Aklanons trained for coconut oil processing

KALIBO, Aklan – To increase the market value of coconut products, the Department of Science and Technology in Western Visayas conducted training in virgin coconut oil processing.

Philippine Coconut Authority Agriculturist II Maria Lyn Ferlina Galvan provided a hands-on activity to the participants from Laserna Baptist Church in the town of Nabas.

Galvan emphasized the health benefits of virgin coconut oil that can be used in different products like coco-sugar, massage oil, vapor rub, and soaps.

She also encouraged the participants to maximize the potential of their coconut farmlands by engaging in virgin coconut oil business.

Aklan province is considered as the biggest coconut cover in Western Visayas with around 32,276 hectares of coconut tree plantations. (With a report from Department of Science and Technology Region 6/PN)
