Aklan’s ‘green category’ status promises peaceful 2025 polls

KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan has been classified under the “green category” for the May 12 midterm elections, indicating no election-related security concerns, according to Chrispin Raymund Gerardo, the election officer and public information officer of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Aklan.

Comelec’s color-coding system designates election hotspots using four categories: red, yellow, orange, and green. Green signifies areas with no significant concerns, while yellow indicates a history of political unrest, orange denotes the presence of armed groups, and red signals critical zones.

“We are expecting an orderly and peaceful election,” Gerardo said.

Gerardo also shared that ongoing trainings, orientations, and briefings are being held in Boracay Island for technicians and members of the election board of canvassers from the Department of Education, who will assist in the local and national elections.

To ensure a smooth electoral process, Comelec organized a Unity Walk and Covenant Signing with electoral candidates this March, emphasizing fairness and peace during the campaign period.

The Philippine National Police will secure 603 clustered precincts across the 17 municipalities of Aklan.

Additionally, the Comelec’s gun ban, which started on January 12, has been enforced, along with the deployment of checkpoints across the province as part of the election preparations./PN
