ILOILO City – The Philippine Coast Guard has ordered the suspension of all sea trips in northern Iloilo towns, including Carles, Estancia, Balasan, San Dionisio, Concepcion, Batad, Sara, and Ajuy, as Typhoon “Uwan” (international name: Fung-Wong) threatens to bring strong winds and rough seas.
Commander Richard D. Gura of the Coast Guard Station Iloilo said the advisory took effect at 5 p.m. on November 7 following the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA) issuance of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over the northeastern part of Iloilo.
Fishing boats and other small vessels are prohibited from going out to sea while the heavy weather continues. Gura also reminded all vessel operators to follow national guidelines on voyage suspension during typhoons.
“Our priority is the safety of passengers and fishermen. We will only allow trips to resume once sea conditions improve,” Gura said.
Local disaster councils have been alerted to monitor coastal areas as Typhoon Uwan nears the Visayas region this weekend./PN
