MANILA – Filipina Jack Animam bucked early foul trouble to power Shih Hsin University Tigers to a 99-57 victory over National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in the University Basketball Association at Taiwan Tech Gym on Wednesday.
The former National University Lady Bulldogs center struggled early as he picked up two quick fouls in the first quarter leaving the Tigers to a tight exchange with their opponent.
The Tigers, however, managed to create distance from their foe in the second period to build a 38-26 halftime edge before Animam anchored Shih Hsin’s offense in the third period to widen the advantage for good.
Animam, a Gilas Pilipinas women mainstay, finished the game with 13 points, all in the third quarter, to go along with eight rebounds, two steals and a block for the defending champions.
Chen Yuti led the way with 19 points on a four-of-nine shooting from deep while Lin Die got 14 points, three rebounds and two steals for the Tigers, which will have a 24-day break before hosting National Taipei University of Business on Dec. 11.
Taiwan Tech, meanwhile, was spearheaded by Chen Zhiying, who scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Prior to her 13-point outing on Wednesday, Animam was dominant in her first two matches, scoring 18 points and hauling six rebounds in Tigers’ 115-44 win over Taiwan University on Monday, and tallying 19 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks in Shih Hsin’s 135-20 triumph over Southeast University of Science and Technology on Tuesday./PN
