BACOLOD City – Another Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) event might be held in this city.
The delegates were satisfied by the city’s hosting of the 15th Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials Responsible for Information from March 22 to 23, according to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
“I can say they were happy and satisfied,” Leonardia said, adding that the delegates felt “comfortable” and found the meeting “well-managed.”
Each representative from the member states had a liaison officer assigned to them.
“Maybe that is the major [factor] why Cecilia Villanueva of the National Organizing Committee [said] they are considering Bacolod City for another ASEAN activity,” the mayor disclosed.
“Bacolod is the City of Smiles,” Leonardia added. “So if they want us to keep smiling, they should come back. If they tell us they will come back, that will be a reason for us to smile.”
Meanwhile ASEAN Security Task Force commander Napoleon Taas cited Leonardia for providing logistical support and the Department of Health for providing medical assistance, among others who helped organize the meeting.
“What we witnessed in the City of Smiles is a whole government [cooperating and] working like never before,” said Taas, also the Joint Task Group Security commander when the Philippines hosted the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings.
Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban, regional police director, said the two-day meeting had been peaceful. No untoward incident happened, he said./PN
