BACOLOD City – Nine traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJs) without franchises and registrations were apprehended in this city since Monday’s intensified operations.
Earlier, Renato Novero, chief of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Bacolod City, met with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, the Bacolod City Traffic Authority (BTAO), the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), and city officials for the resumption of their anti-colorum campaign.
The operation was also joined by BCPO’s Mobile Patrol and Traffic Enforcement units, the Highway Patrol Group and the Public Order and Safety Office.
Police Major Junji Liba, BTAO head, said the PUJs were apprehended for violations of Republic Act 4136, the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
A PUJ with no franchise faces a P120,000 fine and another P15,000 penalty for no registration. The vehicle will also be impounded.
Novero said they lack logistics and would have to deputize at least 20 personnel./PN
