ANTIQUE – This province has scheduled a simple commemoration of the 126th death anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal today.
Highlights of the program are the wreath-laying at the Rizal monument, a 21-gun salute, and a flag-raising ceremony at the EBJ Freedom Park in San Jose de Buenavista town.
On Dec. 12, Antique governor Rhodora Cadiao issued Memorandum Order No. 188 enjoining provincial government department heads, heads of offices, and employees to take part in the commemoration.
“All heads of offices and employees are enjoined to witness the event. All department heads are also requested to bring wreaths for offering,” read part of the order.
All department heads and employees who will attend the program are entitled to one day of compensatory leave.
Every Dec. 30 is a special non-working national holiday.
On that day in 1896 freedom fighter Rizal was executed at Bagumbayan (present-day Rizal Park) in Manila./PN
