Antique cops to undergo training for May elections

SAN JOSE, Antique – Ten Antique police officers will undergo a Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) training set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“This is to ensure smooth and successful elections in Antique’s far-flung areas this May 13,” said Antique Police Provincial Office deputy director for operations Norby Escobar on Monday.

“These officers will serve as patrolmen and will be trained as BEIs to prevent failure of election,” he added.

The police officers will act as BEI if public school teachers fail to serve.

“The BEI training, starting this March until April, is a contingency plan for this coming election,” Escobar said.

He noted political candidates campaigning in risky areas may also request for police assistance.

“The police, however, cannot escort or act as bodyguard to a politician unless authorized by the Comelec,” he stressed. (With PNA/PN)
