ANTIQUE — Gov. Paolo S. Javier has ordered an increase in the daily meal budget for children staying at the Pagsapupo Center, a 24-hour shelter for abused women and children in the province.
According to Caren F. Panagution of the Provincial Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), the daily meal allowance will be raised from P25 to P50 per meal, or P150 per day for each child. The measure aims to ensure better nutrition and support for the 14 children currently housed at the facility.
The announcement came during Gov. Javier’s recent visit to the center, where he joined Cong. Antonio “AA” Legarda Jr. in a gift-giving activity for the children.
After the event, the governor proceeded to the PDAO Center, where he met with individuals undergoing therapy sessions. He also directed Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Larry Petinglay to fast-track the appointment of a permanent PDAO head to further strengthen the office’s programs and services.
Gov. Javier reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting the welfare of children and persons with disabilities (PWDs), emphasizing the importance of providing them with proper care, protection, and opportunities for growth.
“Our goal is to make sure that no child or person with disability is left behind,” he said. “They deserve dignity, compassion, and the full support of the provincial government.”
The move forms part of the provincial government’s continuing effort to enhance social welfare programs and improve the quality of services provided to vulnerable sectors in Antique./PN
