SAN JOSE, Antique – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan here has approved Provincial Ordinance No. 2019-184 enacting the 2019 Children’s Code on Monday in the observance of the children’s month.
Juliana Cepe, provincial planning and development coordinator, emphasized the need to pursue children’s rights and the implementation of an ordinance that will ensure the participation, protection, survival, and development of children.
Cepe urged local officials to allocate funds for projects that will make their barangays and institutions child-friendly.
The provincial government here has been actively working on the development of its child-friendly communities way back in 2000, during the implementation of Country Program for Children where the province was the pilot area of the United Nations Children’s Fund.
Since then, the presentation of the State of the Children’s Report, to be delivered by Gov. Rhodora Cadiao on Nov. 29, was made an annual undertaking of the provincial government.
Other activities for the Children’s Month include a quiz contest, poster-making contest and disaster simulation exercise in some selected schools.
The Child Development Pre-School Congress will be held on the 3rd week of November to showcase the talents of young children.
There will also be advocacy sessions for children of overseas Filipino workers and student leaders on various topics such as cyber-crime, mental health/expression, financial literacy, and migration realities, among other topics.(With a report from PIA-Antique/PN)
