ANTIQUE – Dengue cases in this province have surged to 3,042 following the 89 new cases recorded as of Morbidity Week (MW) 29, with six recorded fatalities since the beginning of 2025, according to the Office of the Provincial Health Officer (OPHO).
As of July 20, San Jose de Buenavista town posted the highest number of cases with 359, followed by Sibalom (314), Hamtic (260), Sebaste (255), and Bugasong (255).
Other municipalities with high case counts include Tobias Fornier (222 cases, one death), Valderrama (219 cases, one death), Tibiao (204), and Culasi (176 cases, one death).
Additional dengue cases were reported in Barbaza (155), Caluya (141), Anini-y (122 cases, one death), Laua-an (104), Patnongon (102), San Remigio (68), Belison (53 cases, one death), Pandan (44), and Libertad (19).
The six dengue-related deaths this year involved young children and teenagers. A seven-year-old from Culasi died on January 28 (Morbidity Week 4), followed by a 15-year-old from Sebaste on February 1 (MW 5). A five-year-old from Anini-y succumbed to the disease on February 25 (MW 8), while an 11-year-old from Valderrama died on April 22 (MW 16). On May 28 (MW 21), a four-year-old from Tobias Fornier passed away, and the most recent fatality was a six-year-old from Belison, who died on July 14 (MW 28).
In response to the rising numbers, the OPHO has ramped up its efforts in community education, intensified monitoring, and vector control activities. Residents are urged to practice the Department of Health’s “4S” strategy includes search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites, secure self-protection through proper clothing and repellents, seek early consultation at the first signs of symptoms, and support fogging/spraying in outbreak areas
The provincial government also continues to mobilize local health units to suppress further transmission and protect vulnerable communities./PN
