SAN JOSE, Antique – While it gives “preferential importance” to road development, the provincial government cannot afford construction costs on its own.
Vice Gov. Edgar Denosta made this admission during the 1st Provincial Roads and Infrastructure Investments Forum in this capital town.
Speaking on behalf of Gov. Rhodora Cadiao, Denosta said the forum was important in pulling resources from government agencies, local government units and the private sector.
“The province of Antique needs you,” Denosta told the participants.
The Asia Foundation, the Antique Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Iloilo Business Club (IBC) spearheaded the forum.
IBC executive director Lea Lara said the forum was a part of the Coordinating Roads and Infrastructure Investments for Development (CR+ID) project funded by the Asia Foundation.
Starting in Antique in 2015, the project aimed to enable municipalities to come up with a geographic information system (GIS) to identify commodity value chains and strategic road and infrastructure investments.
The GIS data will be endorsed to key national funding agencies.
She said they hope to finish the GIS by June to turn it over to the Interior department, which supervises local government units. (PNA)
