ANTIQUE — The Provincial Government of Antique has improved its compliance rating under the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Government Energy Management Program (GEMP), earning a four-star rating after posting an 85.26 percent compliance score.

The upgraded rating marks a significant improvement from the province’s previous three-star standing and reflects its strengthened efforts to promote energy efficiency and conservation in government operations.

The DOE Visayas Field Office conducted a spot inspection at the New Capitol Building on Thursday to assess the provincial government’s compliance with energy efficiency and conservation measures under the GEMP.

The inspection team was led by Chief Science Research Specialist Lourdes Arciaga, who formally turned over the results to Provincial Administrator Atty. Robin Rubinos on behalf of Gov. Paolo Javier.

Arciaga commended the provincial government for institutionalizing its Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee (EECC) through Executive Order No. 39, Series of 2026, signed by Gov. Javier.

Under the executive order, the governor serves as chairperson of the EECC, while Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Bienvenido Nallos Jr. was designated as the province’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) Officer.

During the inspection, the DOE evaluated the provincial government’s energy and fuel consumption, implementation of conservation measures, and inventory of air-conditioning units, lighting systems, office equipment, and government vehicles.

Provincial officials said the improved rating demonstrates Antique’s commitment to energy-efficient governance and responsible energy use.

The recognition comes as the country continues to implement measures aimed at addressing the effects of the State of National Energy Emergency amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East./PN
