SAN JOSE, Antique – The provincial government of Antique has committed to vaccinate Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) personnel against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Gov. Rhodora Cadiao said Philippine Army and Bureau of Fire Protection personnel should also be vaccinated.

“They deserve it,” Cadiao said during the meeting of the provincial inter-agency task force on Monday afternoon.

APPO has a 750-strong personnel in 18 municipal police stations.

The Philippine National Police belongs to the A4 group under the government’s vaccine prioritization list.

Currently, the vaccination is focused on the A1 (healthcare workers), A2 (senior citizens) and A3 (adults with comorbidities) groups.

The League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) Antique chapter agreed with Cadiao. Twelve of the current 513 active COVID-19 cases (as of June 14) in Antique were policemen.

“We have right now six COVID-19-positive policemen,” said Mayor Mary Jean Te of Libertad town, the LMP Antique president.

The six Libertad policemen are currently being quarantined at the Municipal Treatment and Management Facility. (PNA)
