Antique remains peaceful, top cop says

ILOILO City – “We are on top of the situation.”

This was the assurance of the Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) following the two succecssive killings in the province last week.

Antique remained peaceful and orderly, according to Police Colonel Roy Parena, APPO director.

“We have personnel on the streets day and night,” Parena told Panay News.

Four persons were killed in the shootings.

They were village treasurer Jose Servano Jr. in Barangay 8, San Jose who was gunned down on Oct. 14, and Police Staff Sergeant Elvin Agting, barangay kagawad Efren Florendo, and suspect Roy Jalipa in Bugasong who were killed in a shootout on Oct. 15.

The incidents were isolated, according to Parena.

Wala tayong ikababahala,” he added.

Servano was with punong barangay Adrian Macuja when shot by unidentified riding-in-tandem gunmen in front of the Old Capitol building around noontime.

Macuja was unharmed.

The case remained unsolved.

On the other hand, the suspect in the Bugasong shooting was reportedly suffering from nervous breakdown.

He shot the village councilman, reportedly a close acquaintance of him.

The policeman was also shot when he negotiated the suspect’s surrender.

The suspect was killed by the responding police.

According to Parena, crime incidents in Antique were low, although he admitted there had been some cases of hacking or stabbing.

Parena said checkpoints and police visibility are being strictly enforced./PN
