Antiqueño ‘sakada’ killed in Negros Occidental town

BACOLOD City – A sugarcane cutter from Antique province had been stabbed by a colleague in Sitio San Ramon, Barangay Manalad, Ilog, Negros Occidental.

The 28-year-old Andy Mer Catiempo Labanon died of a stab wound in the stomach.

Police identified the suspect as the 26-year-old Dexter Catiempo Samsona.

Labanon and Samsona were relatives and natives of Barangay Pangilkilan, Lawa-an, Antique, police said.

It was not immediately clear what led to the stabbing at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday at their living quarters.

But police investigation showed that the incident transpired while both Antiqueños were on a drinking binge.

Labanon was taken to the Kabankalan City District Hospital. Dr. Billy June Tigbao pronounced him “dead on arrival.”

Police learned from witnesses that Samsona fled after the stabbing.

Police recovered from the crime scene a 10-inch long knife scabbard.

Investigators were still trying to determine the motive as of this writing./PN
