BACOLOD City – A farmworker allegedly burned a sugarcane plantation in Hacienda San Jose, Barangay Bulad, Isabela, Negros Occidental.
Police arrested 26-year-old Roberto Ostan Tompong of Bugasong, Antique.
Co-farmworker Jerson Panillo Sanchez saw Tompong set on fire around 4 hectares of the plantation, causing damage estimated at around P520,000, said Chief Inspector Edfel Balibadlan, municipal police chief.
Tompong was detained in the Isabela police station lockup cell on Sunday.
Police have yet to determine his motive as of this writing.
Harry Chua of Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City owns the plantation./PN
