Army foils ‘NPA attack’ in Igbaras

Military forces thwarted an attack, which was carried out by a group of armed men believed to be New People’s Army fighters, in Barangay Igcabugao, Igbaras, Iloilo Wednesday morning.

Lieutenant Joel Benedict Batara, Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry Battalion commander, said they have managed to repel the communist rebels’ plan of sabotaging a hydro-power company’s equipment in the said village.

“The eyes and ears from the community reported the communist-terrorists’ presence in Igcabugao who are planning to sabotage and burn the equipment of Century Peak Energy Corporation (CPEC) and its hydro-power plant in the area,” he said.

Batara added that his troops are conducting pursuit operations against the group of communist-terrorists they encountered in Barangay Ongyod, Miagao, Iloilo last Sept. 23 when they received a reliable information about the presence of the terrorists in Igcabugao.

No casualties on government side.

The troops recovered from the encounter site 3 Molotove bombs; 1 Rifle grenade; 1 Hand grenade; 1 Blasting cap; 2 Packs ammonium nitrate; 2 Dynamites and 1 CNT shirt.

Batara also underscored CPEC’s cooperation to the AFP’s campaign against insurgency by nor giving in to the extortion demands of the CNTs./PN
