MANILA – Talk ‘N Text KaTropa consultant Tab Baldwin is reaching out to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) following an issue that erupted the Filipino basketball world last week.
Baldwin, also the program director of Gilas Pilipinas, is in hot water for the unfavorable statements he made to the league during a podcast recently. He questioned the officiating, the one-import conference format and the so-called ‘tactical immaturity’ of coaches.
According to PBA commissioner Willie Marcial, the American-Kiwi mentor has sought an audience with him to sort out the mess.
“Siya naman ang nagpasabi na gusto niyang makipag-usap,” Marcial said in an interview with Spin.ph over the weekend. “Tayo naman (ay) nagbibigay ng pagkakataon sa lahat.
He added that no date yet has been set for his meeting with the rough-talking Baldwin, and he is also tight-lipped on what punishment he will charge to the latter.
Baldwin’s comments did not sit well with the PBA commissioner. The latter said that the former’s statements were “detrimental” to the league.
San Miguel Corporation sports director Alfrancis Chua, for his part, branded Baldwin’s statement as wrong timing and in poor taste while NLEX Road Warriors head coach Joseller Guiao blasted the foreign consultant.
The Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines, which allowed Baldwin to coach the Ateneo Blue Eagles despite a being a foreigner, called the American-Kiwi’s comments as “attack not just on local coaches but on Filipinos as well.”/PN
