ILOILO City – In a landmark move to combat urban housing shortages, the city government has officially broken ground on a ₱2.539-billion socialized housing project under the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) program, signaling the start of one of the largest residential developments in the city’s history.
Held on May 9 in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro district, the groundbreaking ceremony launched the construction of the Uswag 4PH Condominium Complex — an ambitious vertical housing initiative aimed at providing affordable and dignified shelter for informal settler families, minimum wage earners, and residents relocated from danger zones.
“This project will really lessen the housing backlog in our city. These 13-story, 1,677 units will provide a safe for many Ilonggo families,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
He added: “We are also working on additional facilities such as a mini-market and plan to turn over 240 units to Pag-IBIG for processing. These are exciting times for Iloilo City because we are finally delivering on a long-overdue need.”
Also in attendance were Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, city councilors, department heads, and officials from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), Eon Realty & Development Corporation, and the Pag-IBIG Fund — partners in the project.
The condominium complex will consist of 13 10-story buildings, each housing 129 units. Aside from residential spaces, the project promises modern amenities and community infrastructure, including a mini-market and access to livelihood programs.
When asked whether the program is open to all Ilonggos, Treñas confirmed: “Yes, this is open. This project will have 1,766 units available to qualified residents.”
The Uswag 4PH project underscores Iloilo City’s commitment to inclusive urban progress and aligns with the national government’s goal of ensuring every Filipino has access to decent, affordable housing.
Construction is set to begin immediately, with initial unit turnover expected in the coming months./PN
