MANILA – Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles made a quick work of the University of Visayas Green Lancers to capture the crown of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League on Monday night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

George Isaac Go led the way with 15 points, while BJ Andrade added 13 markers, while Ilonggo Ferdinand “Thirdy” Ravena III and RJ Berjay had 12 markers each for the Blue Eagles.

This was the Blue Eagles’ sixth championship for the last two years after winning two UAAP titles, the 2018 SMART City Hoops Summer Classic, the 2018 Filoil Chooks-to-Go Preseason Cup, and the 2018 SMART Breakdown Basketball Invitationals.

“These guys have achieved a lot. It feels funny playing games that now we’re representing the 2018 team. Coaching staff’s already planning for 2019, but it’s nice to cap it all off with a couple of wins,” said Blue Eagles head coach Thomas Baldwin.

The Blue Eagles immediately showed its dominance in the opening quarter behind Go, Berjay, Andrade and Bacolodnon guard Samjosef Belangel to surge to a 19-8 advantage.

The Green Lancers attempted to make it a close contest early in the second period but the Blue Eagles were just too much as it quickly pull away to build its largest lead at 84-51 in the fourth period.

Rey Suerte, who is set to play for Che’Lu Bar and Grill Revellers in the PBA D-League, top-scored with 26 points, while Bassieru Sackor tallied a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Green Lancers./PN
