MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts settled for a fourth place finish at the close of the 2019 Rebisco Volleyball League National Finals on Saturday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The Thunderbolts failed to replicate its third place finish a year ago after losing to Hawaii, United States of American in the bronze medal match, 25-21, 18-25, 26-24.
After splitting the first two sets, the Thunderbolts had a strong start in the deciding frame on attacks by Alyssa Bertolano, Shane Carmona and Joan Marie Monares but Hawaii rallied back to make it a close match.
The Thunderbolts once again inched closer late in the match but multiple errors from them allowed the Hawaii to complete its come-from-behind victory.
In the semifinals round, Thunderbolts faltered to 3BB Nakornnont of Thailand, 28-26, 25-10, while Hawaii was beaten by Adamson University Baby Falcons, 25-23, 25-17.
Meanwhile, 3BB Nakornnont emerged as champions in the weeklong competition after hacking a 26-24, 25-17, 25-15 straight set victory over the Baby Falcons in the gold medal match./PN
