Bacolod allots P10-M ASF aid, urges hog raisers to register

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is encouraging hog raisers in this city to registered at their respective barangays to avail themselves of financial assistance should African Swine Fever (ASF) hit their livelihood.

The P10-million ASF aid was sourced from the disaster preparedness fund of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

SP committee on agriculture chair Councilor Thaddeus Sayson clarified that the city has guidelines for the financial aid set by the Department of Agriculture.

These include that raisers, backyard or commercial, must register their hogs with the barangay and indicate the total population of their hogs.

But Sayson said only raisers whose hogs were culled by the City Veterinary Office are entitled to avail themselves of the assistance.

“A hog raiser can secure assistance if there is a positive ASF case within the barangay and pigs within the 50-meter radius are subjected to culling,” the councilor added.

The corresponding value for every culled pig is P3,000 for a piglet; P5,000 for fattener; and P7,000 for a breeding pig (sow/boar)./PN
