BACOLOD City – The City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has seized a total of P56 million worth of shabu since January of this year.

Capt. Joven Mogato, head of the CDEU, said their buy-bust operations resulted in the confiscation of eight kilograms of shabu and the arrest of 41 drug suspects.

Mogato noted that of the 41 arrested, a majority were tagged as “new players” in the illegal drug trade. Only a few were members of drug groups, he added.

In an operation that the unit led on Oct. 17, 3.2 kilos of shabu with an estimated street value of P20.53 million were confiscated. This is, so far, the biggest single-operation seizure in Western Visayas this year.

The confiscated illegal drugs were turned over to the crime laboratory for investigation and safekeeping. They will then be used as evidence for filing appropriate criminal charges against the arrested individuals.

Further, the BCPO had the highest total confiscation in the region, with P90.4 million in 10 months of operations.

The CDEU warned that before the end of this year, the quantity of shabu in the city of Bacolod and the province of Negros Occidental might increase./PN
