MANILA – The Bacolod City-based MK Gymnastics will conduct an online competition from Feb. 25 to 28.

Dubbed as the “First MK Rhythmic Gymnastics International Online Competition,” the three-day tournament will be the first-ever online rhythmic gymnastics competition in the country.

According to MK Gymnastics co-founder Ma. Kristina Alagaban, the tournament aims to encourage gymnasts not just from the Philippines but also from other countries to perform, gain experience, and develop friendships and linkages among various rhythmic gymnastics clubs.

“We in MK thought of holding this kind of competition where all interested gymnasts from the Philippines and other countries can showcase their talents and skills in rhythmic gymnastics even during this time of pandemic,” Alagaban said.

“We were inspired to organize this rhythmic gymnastics tournament, which will be the first in the Philippines, from the international online competition that we participated in last year,” she added.

As of press time, 19 rhythmic gymnastics clubs from the Philippines and other countries like Hongkong, Mexico, Germany, Australia, and France have registered for the competition.

A total of 114 gymnasts will participate and compete for the podium finish and other special awards such as Miss Expression, Miss Elegance, Miss Energetic, Miss Flexibility, and Miss Smile.

Participating gymnasts will be categorized based on their date of birth and they may choose where to compete in the four different levels set by the tournament director and founding coach of MK Gymnastics, Kris Joy Leeping.

“We are thankful to the support of other rhythmic gymnastics clubs who participated. We are looking forward to more entries days before the tournament,” said Leeping, who is also the tournament manager for Rhythmic Gymnastics in the Palarong Pambansa held in Davao City last 2019.

The First MK Rhythmic Gymnastics International Online Competition is organized by MK Gymnastics Club in partnership with Samsung and Smart Communications./PN
